The Detroit Lions finish the season against the Chicago Bears. Here is a simulation of the game.
The Bears received the ball first and were moving down the field with ease when running back Matt Forte fumbled the ball, which was scooped up by Louis Delmas and taken 82 yards down the field for the touchdown.
The second quarter featured three field goals. Jason Hanson extended the lead to 10-0 before Olindo Mare cut the lead back to a touchdown with a 40-yarder. Hanson booted a 44-yarder, and at halftime the Lions led 13-3.
The third quarter would be called The Matt Forte Show, as the running back scored a pair of touchdowns to give the Bears a 17-13 lead heading into the fourth. He broke a tackle on a 2-yard run, and then broke many more on a monstrous 78-yard run later in the quarter.
In the fourth, Hanson kicked another field goal to make it 17-16, but the Bears answered back with a Mare three-pointer of their own. With the score 20-16 at the two-minute warning, could the Lions make their last drive of the season worth it? Sadly, no. Matthew Stafford tossed a costly interception in Bears territory, and their Madden season ended in a loss. On a positive note, they did win more games than the real Lions this year.
Stafford threw 25/38 for 316 yards and one interception. Mikel Leshoure rushed for 40 yards on 18 carries and caught four passes for 24 yards. Calvin Johnson had a great day, catching nine passes for 145 yards.
For the Bears, Jay Cutler went 13/17 for 210 yards. Forte ran all over the Lions with 159 yards on 29 carries and two TDs. Devin Hester caught four passes for 84 yards.
Madden record: 8-8
Real record: 4-11

NRA shouldn't blame violent video games for mass shootings since they released their own shooter in 2006
On Friday, the National Rifle Association called for armed police officers in every school to stop future travesties like the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting from happening. To no one's surprise, violent video games, along with music videos and movies, were partially blamed for the incident.
The old violent video games argument is back, even though studies have shown lack of proof of them causing violent behavior, with even the Supreme Court having ruled in favor of gamers in the United States. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the NRA, quoted games like Bulletstorm, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat and Splatterhouse as exposing violence to children. Yes, Mortal Kombat, a game first released in 1992 and would be considered PG-rated these days. Where was the mention of Call of Duty? Or was it omitted because that's about the military and is A-ok by NRA's standards?
Another game LaPierre failed to mention was "NRA Gun Club," a very bad PS2 title released in September 2006. Published by Crave Entertainment, it lets gamers shoot more than 100 types of firearms in shooting ranges and open environments. The game, which features a nice close-up of a gun on the cover, was rated for everyone ages 10 and up. It also includes detailed descriptions on every firearm.
Mike Marcellin, managing director of the NRA, said in a press release at the time: "In keeping with the NRA mission, this game tests marksmanship in a sporting environment and emphasizes responsible use of firearms. This is a fun and exciting game, challenging all ages and all levels of firearms proficiency."
Critics of violent video games will point out that Call of Duty and other first-person shooters teach individuals how to shoot guns. It's a ridiculous claim that I and other gamers just shake our heads at. Anyone who's played these shooters will tell you just how unrealistic they are in the first place.
Which is why I find the NRA's response to the shooting so hilarious, besides them wanting to turn every school into a prison-like setting (let's add electric fences and guard towers while we're at it). It's reeks of hypocrisy. Individuals won't become gun experts after playing NRA Gun Club, but what makes this game different from other shooters is the whole point of it is to ... actually learn about and shoot all kinds of real-life guns. If you're going to go around blaming violent video games for mass shootings, that's your right to do so. But don't blame Call of Duty, Halo or Battlefield. Blame this one!
Yes, NRA Gun Club is target shooter and you're not actually killing anyone, but in the end it's just like every other video game out there - violent or not. It's fake. It's a fantasy world we put ourselves into, just like reading a book or going to the movies. From Japan to Canada, everyone's reading, watching and playing the same things as Americans are. Yet, you hardly hear horror stories like the tragedy in Connecticut elsewhere.
I don't know the exact solution, but I'm pretty sure it involves mental health and gun regulations of some sort. I know one thing, though: It sure isn't regulating violent video games. If we keep focusing on that, the problem will never be solved.

Madden NFL 13 Week 16 simulation: Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons
The Detroit Lions face the Atlanta Falcons for a Monday Night Football matchup on Saturday night. Here is a simulation of the game.
After the Lions punted deep in their own end zone to start the game, Falcons running back Michael Turner powered his way past defenders on a 19-yard touchdown score to give Atlanta the early 7-0 lead. On the next drive Joique Bell fumbled the ball on the Lions' own 25-yard line, and the Falcons easily scooped it up. A Matt Bryant field goal extended their lead to 10-0.
Near the end of the quarter the Lions finally got on scoreboard thanks to Matthew Stafford finding Calvin Johnson on a 47-yard TD pass.
In the second, Bryant added another field goal to give the Falcons a 13-7 lead. Stafford threw a deep interception on the next drive, but it turned out alright after Turner fumbled the ball back to the Lions. Bell redeemed himself from earlier by pounding his way into the end zone from eight yards out to give the Lions the lead.
However, Matt Ryan led the offense down the field quickly before halftime, finding Julio Jones on a six-yard TD pass to give the lead back to the Falcons, 20-14.
The Falcons continued with the momentum in the third, quickly scoring a TD on a 46-yard TD pass from Ryan to Jacquizz Rodgers. The Falcons failed to score on the two-point conversion.
Afterward, the Lions once again found themselves punting out of their own end zone, resulting in another Falcons field goal. Unfortunately, Bell coughed the ball up again in Lions territory, and another Falcons field goal extended the lead to 32-14 going into the fourth.
After Jason Hanson kicked a field goal and Bryant kicking one right back, the Lions needed a quick score for any hope of comeback. They got one when Stafford found a wide-open Brian Robiskie down the middle of the field. Robiskie broke a tackle and took it to the house for the big, 75-yard TD reception.
The Falcons added another field goal to make it 38-24. The Lions got another touchdown from Mikel Leshoure, but it took much longer as only a minute remained in the game. The onside kick was recovered by the Falcons, and the Lions were dealt another loss, this time 38-31.
Stafford went 26/37 for 379 yards, two TDs and one interception. Leshoure only rushed for 26 yards to go with his TD but caught four passes for 48 yards. Johnson had a monster day, catching eight for 135 yards to go with his TD.
For the Falcons, Ryan threw 24/36 for 286 yards and two TDs, Turner rushed 28 times for 89 yards and one TD, and Tony Gonzalez caught four passes for 73 yards.

Quick thoughts on Pinball FX 2: Zen Classics
I've been playing more video game pinball lately, this time Pinball FX 2: Zen Classics for the Xbox 360. Here are some thoughts on the game.
Zen Studios recently released four tables from its Zen Pinball lineup for Xbox 360 owners. Tesla, Eldorado, Shaman and V12 have been remastered with better physics and graphics, and feature one Achievement for each table. If you've already played these tables for the PS3, you won't miss much, but Xbox-only pinball players won't be disappointed with the selection.
Tesla has a cool steampunk vibe that lets you bring crazy inventions to life while Shaman features challenging spin discs that make the ball go wild. Eldorado is a very open table with an Indiana Jones feel, and V12 is a very basic car-themed table kind of like Pinball FX's Speed Machine table. Playing these tables really shows you how the series has evolved from the early days to the more elaborate tables Zen puts out now.

Nintendo TVii launching Dec. 20 for the Wii U
Nintendo has announced the much talked about Nintendo TVii service will launch Dec. 20. There were questions lately when it was actually coming out, so surprise! It's out tomorrow in the United States and Canada.
Nintendo TVii is a free service that allows users to access all their content sources in one place, from cable providers to Hulu Plus. Owners can go on Miiverse, Facebook and Twitter and share comments with others using the Wii U Gamepad. For example, while watching TV you'll be able to access other websites like Rotten Tomatoes or IMBD to get more information on a show or movie, or you can find out sports stats from a game you're watching.
The launch will support cable and satellite providers, as well as integration with Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus subscriptions in the U.S. Netflix and TiVo integration is expected in early 2013 in the U.S., although Wii U owners with Netflix can still access the application.
I've been looking forward to trying this out since launch, and I'm sure others have, too. The wait is finally over.

Madden NFL 13 Week 15 simulation: Detroit Lions vs. Arizona Cardinals
The Detroit Lions visit the Arizona Cardinals this weekend. Here is a simulation of Sunday's matchup.
After an early Matthew Stafford interception, the Cardinals struck first with a 39-yard Jay Feely field goal. Feely would kick another one to give the Cardinals a 6-0 lead after the first quarter.
Jason Hanson would get the Lions on the board in the second with a field goal of his own, but Feely would boot two more - one after another Stafford interception- to give the Cardinals a 12-3 lead. Before halftime ... you guessed it, Hanson would kick another one to make it 12-6.
The field goal fest continued in the third quarter with another Hanson three-pointer to make it 12-9. However, Stafford and the Lions' offense would finally put together a long drive - 12 plays in fact - ending it with a 1-yard Calvin Johnson touchdown reception to give the Lions a 16-12 lead after three quarters of play.
The Cardinals would cut the lead to one point with another Feely field goal in the fourth. Hanson had a chance to extend the lead back to four but came up short on a long 54-yard field goal attempt. With good field position, Ryan Lindley would find Larry Fitzgerald for a devastating reception inside the 20-yard line with a few minutes remaining. Feely would boot his sixth field goal of the game to give the Cardinals an 18-16 lead.
Even with all three timeouts, the Lions could not get in field goal range and ran out of time, losing a heartbreaker.
Stafford threw 26/48 for 237 yards, one TD and two interceptions. Mikel Leshoure had a good day on the ground, rushing for 113 yards, and Johnson caught four passes for 33 yards to go with his TD.
For the Cardinals, Lindley went 17/35 for 192 yards and one interception, Beanie Wells rushed for 54 yards, and Fitzgerald caught five passes for 66 yards.

Here's a neat Nintendo infographic filled with numbers and nostalgia
I enjoy looking at statistics and numbers about anything in the video game industry, and here's a neat infographic courtesy of Emily Torres from MBAonline.com. It's a nice little Nintendo history lesson pointing out their playing card days in 1889 to total sales numbers of all their consoles. Plus, it has all the cool, old-school Nintendo sprites and details. Enjoy.

Collector selling all 721 Super Nintendo games released in North America for $25,000. Is it worth it?
An individual on eBay is selling the complete North American Super Nintendo collection - all 721 games - for $24,999 or best offer. According to the description, all of these games were sold at retail in the United States, Mexico and Canada; and this lot includes all the boxes and 84 percent of the manuals. The full inventory of games is listed on the eBay link.
It's a very impressive collection that likely took many years and dollars to complete, especially since they come in all those ugly boxes many of us just threw away. Despite that, it's still not worth $25,000. There's too few rare games in there for that high of value, plus all the manuals aren't in the lot, something the real hardcore collectors will scoff at. Many offers have been declined already; I would assume many joke ones. This will be a tough sell, unless some really obsessive fan breaks out the checkbook.

Street Fighter X Mega Man unites the Blue Bomber with Ryu, Chun Li, Blanka and more on Dec. 17
Capcom is bringing Mega Man back ... but not how you expected it. They are releasing Street Fighter X Mega Man on Dec. 17, a free fan-made crossover game of the company's two iconic franchises. It will be available for download at www.Capcom-Unity.com. Street Fighter is currently celebrating 25 years while Mega Man will do so in 2013.
Watching the trailer, the game looks fun and has all that classic 8-bit goodness. Eight bosses featuring original Street Fighter characters like Ryu, Chun Li and Blanka will have unique moves and strategies, just like in other Mega Man games. I'll definitely try it out. It's free after all.
Still, this is a fan-made game. What I would really like to see is the revival of Mega Man Legends 3, which was disappointingly canceled for the 3DS last year. How about we celebrate 25 years of Mega Man next year with the release of that game, Capcom? Pretty please?

Madden NFL 13 Week 14 simulation: Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers
The Detroit Lions head to cold Lambeau Field in Green Bay for a Sunday night matchup. Here is a simulation of the game.
The Packers got the ball first, but it wouldn't last long after Ndamukong Suh delivered a crushing sack to quarterback Aaron Rodgers, forcing a fumble that was scooped up by Cliff Avril and taken in for the touchdown for the early 7-0 lead.
Amazingly, Suh would cause another Rodgers fumble later in the quarter to stop a drive deep in Lions territory. But later, kicker Mason Crosby would boot a short field goal to get the Packers on the board before the first quarter ended.
The Packers would cut the lead to one point with another Crosby field goal after Matthew Stafford tossed an interception. The Lions' defense stepped up again, picking off Rodgers twice. Chris Houston and Stephen Tulloch added interceptions to their stat line, and one resulted in a Stafford-to-Mike Thomas connection for a touchdown to extend the Lions' lead to 14-6.
However, the Packers weren't done yet. After catching a pass, Randall Cobb broke a tackle and scampered 45 yards down the field and into the end zone to close in on the Lions 14-13 before halftime.
In the third, the Lions answered back with an impressive opening drive, capped off by a 2-yard Mikel Leshoure rushing TD. Jacob Lacey joined the Rodgers interception party afterward, and Stafford found Brandon Pettigrew on a 10-yard TD score to give the Lions a 28-13 lead. Crosby would kick another field goal before the quarter's end.
After Hanson and Crosby each hit a field goal near the beginning of the fourth, Greg Jennings joined the scoring frenzy when he broke past the Lions' secondary on a monstrous, 76-yard TD reception to make it 31-26 Lions.
With time running out and the Packers moving the ball down the field, Houston made the big play, intercepting Rodgers in the end zone for his second pick of the day and Rodgers' fourth. The offense was able to run out the clock, securing the hard-fought victory.
Stafford went 22/38 for 270 yards, two TDs and two interceptions. Leshoure ran 79 yards on 19 carries and one TD. Calvin Johnson caught six passes for 90 yards, and Pettigrew caught seven for 85 yards to go with his TD.
Rodgers threw 25/33 for 363 yards, two TDs and four interceptions, and Jennings caught five passes for 109 yards and one TD.

Composer Austin Wintory gets a well-deserved Grammy nomination for his work on Journey
The 55th annual Grammy Award nominations are out and an awesome video game is in the spotlight. Composer Austin Wintory received a nomination under the category Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for his amazing work on the hit PSN title Journey.
It is up against some great competition including John Williams for "The Adventures of Tintin - The Secret of the Unicorn," Ludovic Bource for "The Artist," Hans Zimmer for "The Dark Knight Rises," Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and Howard Shore for "Hugo." It's not often you see a video game soundtrack get a nomination, but Wintory's work on Journey is simply brilliant and deserving of the honor.
Enjoy the nomination, and good luck at the Grammys.

Here is what Andrew Luck's game-winning TD against the Detroit Lions looks like in Tecmo Super Bowl
If you threw the remote against the wall in disgust at the Detroit Lions yesterday, I don't blame you. That was a bad loss. If you saw it coming, I don't blame you either. That's so Detroit Lions. If there's one positive of Andrew Luck destroying the 1 percent chance of the Lions making the playoffs this year, the final play of the game has been immortalized in Tecmo Super Bowl fashion with the actual broadcast mixed in. It's still painful to watch ... just not as painful.

Madden NFL 13 Week 13 simulation: Detroit Lions vs. Indianapolis Colts
Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts visit Ford Field this weekend to take on the Detroit Lions. Here is a simulation of Sunday's game.
After a couple of punts from both sides, Luck made the first mistake of the day by tossing an easy interception to Jacob Lacey, giving the Lions good field position. Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson took advantage, connecting on a big 42-yard touchdown score in double coverage to give the Lions the early 7-0 lead. Jason Hanson would kick a 27-yard field goal to extend the lead later in the first quarter.
In the second Stafford threw his first interception of the game, but the Lions' defense continued to dominate and forced the Colts to punt. Hanson hit a long 49-yard field goal to give the Lions a 13-0 lead at halftime.
The offensive woes began in the third quarter and the Lions found themselves going nowhere the whole time. The defense did their best to stop the Colts, allowing two Adam Vinatieri field goals. The Lions held onto the touchdown lead going into the fourth.
That lead wouldn't last much longer. After more offensive troubles, Luck led the Colts on an impressive drive, capped off by an 8-yard touchdown run by Vick Ballard, tying the game 13-13.
With time slowly ticking away, the Lions looked to take the lead back and put the pressure on the Colts. It didn't happen as Stafford tossed a damaging 42-yard interception return for a touchdown to Cassius Vaughn, giving the Colts their first lead of the game. They would easily run out the clock to secure the 20-13 victory.
Stafford threw 16/31 for 207 yards and one TD and two interceptions. Mikel Leshoure rushed for 68 yards on 29 carries and Johnson caught four passes for 82 yards and one TD. Ndamukong Suh, who's been the talk of the town lately for all the wrong reasons, had two tackles on the day, including one sack.

Quick thoughts on Marvel Pinball: Civil War
Zen Studios has released another Marvel Pinball table, this time focusing on Iron Man and Captain America at odds over the Superhuman Registration act in "Civil War." Here are some thoughts on the game.
There's a neat prologue before the actual game begins. Before you choose to side with either Iron Man, who is for registration, or Captain America, who is against it, a fun multiball mini-game sets up the narrative. The points accumulated during this bonus mode are saved, and players can always start out with that score. This mode can be skipped, too, if you don't feel like playing it.
Civil War is one of the more difficult tables Zen has released recently. The goal is to pick a side and recruit allies by completing various ramp and orbit shots and other objectives. There are very strict time limits to complete these, and sometimes allies will defect to the other side if you're not playing well. You need allies when entering fight mode, where Iron Man and Captain America duke it out on the table. The more allies, the more time you have to complete various shots.
As usual, Zen has made another good-looking table filled with blinking lights and cool effects. The voice acting is well done, and the music isn't bad either.

Powerball simulator lets you see how long it takes to win the jackpot
The Powerball jackpot for Nov. 28 is estimated at $500 million, and it keeps growing. We all know the long odds of winning the whole thing, but a Powerball simulator really puts it into perspective how lucky one has to be to do it, especially just picking six random numbers.
The simulator lets you choose your own numbers or the easy-pick option, and goes at a pace of two tickets each week for however long you feel like. The longer you go, the more depressing it gets. Above, I simulated up to 1,500 years, and the highest amount I won was $100 - only 13 times. I did win plenty of $4 prizes, but still spent $312,000 to win $22,837, for a whopping return of 7 cents on the dollar.
But like many, I'll still buy a few tickets with hopes of winning the big one. Because someone has to, right?

Quick thoughts on New Super Mario Bros. U
I picked up a Wii U Deluxe on launch day and am loving every minute of it. Here are some thoughts on New Super Mario Bros. U.
It's almost 2013 and we're finally seeing Mario in HD, and Nintendo made the wait worth it. NSMBU is very polished and an amazing looking game. I love the backgrounds in these type of games, and seeing them in HD is a real treat.
Even though mini-bosses are still easy to defeat, I felt challenged early and often to complete levels with all the Star Coins. In NSMB2 for the 3DS, the difficulty ramped up more near the end of the game and bonus content after beating it. Fortunately, that does not happen in NSMBU. Other modes besides story offer speed and collection challenges that are not a walk in the park either.
The overall level design is one of Nintendo's best, and they don't feel repetitive at all. I wanted to check every pipe and search every nook and cranny for secrets, which there are plenty to find. The throwbacks to Super Mario Bros. 3, one of the best Mario games in existence, only add to the fun.

Madden NFL 13 Week 12 simulation: Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans
After a devastating loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions look to bounce back against the Houston Texans on Thursday. Here is a simulation of the Thanksgiving Day game.
After a big 28-yard run by Mikel Leshoure to start the game, the Lions' offense went nowhere and was forced to punt. After a few more punts in an uneventful first quarter, Jason Hanson kicked a 49-yard field goal to break the scoreless tie.
The defense for both teams dominated in the second. Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was picked off by Ricardo Silva, but the Lions couldn't take advantage of it. Later in the quarter Matthew Stafford got shaken up after a brutal sack, and Shaun Hill came in for a series. Fans didn't need to worry long as Stafford came right back in.
The third quarter was all about Arian Foster. The Texans running back powered his way downfield, topping 100 yards rushing near the end of the quarter. His 2-yard touchdown run would give the Texans a 7-3 lead entering the fourth.
After more punts, Stafford and the Lions' offense were finally able to march the down the field and put themselves in great position to take the lead. But after getting to the Texans' 2-yard line, a killer holding penalty moved them back.
Then the game changer: Whitney Mercilus would burst past the offensive line and deliver a brutal hit on Stafford, knocking the ball free. Mercilus scooped up the fumble and took it back 76 yards for the score, giving the Texans a healthy 14-3 lead with a few minutes remaining.
There would be no Thanksgiving Day Miracle at Ford Field as Stafford tossed an interception on the next drive, and the Texans ran out the clock to end the game.
Stafford went 20/31 for 166 yards and one interception and Leshoure ran for 96 yards on 20 carries. For the Texans, Foster had a monster day, running 122 yards on 32 carries and one TD.
Madden record: 7-4

iPad, Wii U top choices on kids' holiday wish lists, according to Nielsen study
What do kids want for Christmas? According to a Nielsen study, Apple and Nintendo products.
The annual survey asks kids ages 6-12 what electronic devices interest them the most as the holiday season approaches. Leading the list is the iPad at 48 percent, followed by the Wii U, the brand-new Nintendo console that just released, at 39 percent. Rounding out the top five are the iPod Touch, iPad Mini and iPhone. Yes, 6-year-olds are asking for iPhones for Christmas. Funny, and kind of sad at the same time.
Other notable items include the Kinect add-on for the Xbox 360 at 31 percent, Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL at 29 percent, the regular DS at 28 percent, Sony PS3 at 26 percent and the Xbox 360 at 25 percent. Only 14 percent of those surveyed wanted a PS Vita.
For those ages 13 and over, the iPad once again topped the list at 21 percent of those surveyed who wanted one. That was followed by a computer at 19 percent, tablet computer other than an iPad at 18 percent, Wii U at 17 percent and an iPhone at 14 percent. The Kinect is at 9 percent, PS3 at 8 percent, Xbox 360 at 7 percent, Wii at 6 percent, 3DS/ 3DS XL at 5 percent and PS Vita at 4 percent.
Apple trouncing the competition should be no surprise to anyone since they've done this the past couple of years. Maybe next year we'll see a new Xbox or PlayStation console topping these lists.

Madden NFL 13 Week 11 simulation: Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers
The dreaded Green Bay Packers visit Ford Field this weekend to take on the Detroit Lions. Here is a simulation of Sunday's game.
The Lions received the ball first, but did nothing with it and were quickly forced to punt. Mason Crosby got the Packers on the board with a 33-yard field goal to take the early lead. Matthew Stafford answered back in a big way, finding Titus Young on a slant route, who broke free and took it 65 yards down the field for the touchdown.
A Jacob Lacey interception off of Aaron Rodgers stopped the next Packers drive, and the first quarter ended with a 7-3 lead for the Lions.
The second quarter began great for Lions. Forced to punt, they recovered the fumble on the return to get the ball back in good field position. Jason Hanson kicked a short 19-yard field goal to make it 10-3.
As the Packers moved with ease on the next drive, Rodgers threw his second interception of the game, this time to Ricardo Silva. Stafford and company made sure the Packers paid for it as Mikel Leshoure capped off an impressive drive with a 2-yard TD run to give the Lions a big 17-3 lead.
However, the Packers' offense wasn't ready to enter halftime just yet. Rodgers turned on beast mode, completing big passes, including a 23-yard TD reception to Randall Cobb to make it 17-10 at halftime.
The third quarter was looking great for the Lions at the start. The offense was moving the ball and threatening to get their two-TD lead back when Stafford tossed a devastating 83-yard interception return for a TD, tying the game and quieting the Ford Field crowd.
With momentum fully on the Packers' side, Rodgers eventually tossed his second TD reception to Tom Crabtree from 17 yards out to give the Packers a 24-17 lead. With the game getting out of hand, Stafford needed to come up big on the next drive. It didn't happen, as the Lions quarterback threw another pick six, this time for 50 yards. The dreadful third quarter ended with the Packers up 31-17.
A big fourth-quarter comeback was needed, and Hanson started it with a 22-yard field goal. But the Packers' offense couldn't be stopped. Alex Green ran in from 3 yards out for a TD, and in what some may call classless, Rodgers connected with Jermichael Finley for a TD with under a minute to go, instead of running out the clock. The Ford Field crowd booed loudly as the Packers ended their smackdown on the Lions, 45-20.
Stafford went 31/46 for 325 yards, one TD and three interceptions; Leshoure ran for 60 yards on 18 carries and one TD; and Young had a big day, catching eight passes for 172 yards and one TD.
Rodgers threw 18/27 for 265 yards and three TDs and interceptions each; Green rushed for 86 yards on 27 carries and one TD; and Jordy Nelson caught three passes for 128 yards.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II sells more than $500 million worldwide in 24 hours
Another year, another Call of Duty record smashed.
In a press release, Activision stated Call of Duty: Black Ops II sold more than $500 million worldwide in the first 24 hours of release, making it the fourth year in a row a game in the franchise is the biggest entertainment launch of the year and smashing records everywhere. There were more than 16,000 midnight openings at stores worldwide and Twitter was abuzz for this annual release.
It's pretty much become the Apple of video games. The franchise has its strong vocal supporters and opponents, and rakes in monster cash every year. Even if you hate the game, you have to come away impressed. A half of billion dollars is nothing to scoff at. The gaming industry needs it, especially during this dragged-out generation.
Black Ops II is available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. A Wii U version will be released Nov. 18 when the new console launches. It would make a great Christmas gift for someone, but odds are they already own it.

PS3 shipments reach 70 million; PS Move tops 15 million; but no hard numbers on the PS Vita
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced the PS3 has shipped 70 million units worldwide, an impressive number after the botched $600 launch in November 2006. Meanwhile, the PS Move motion controller topped 15 million units worldwide, but I seriously doubt 1-in-5 PS3 owners actually own one. It never did catch on like the Wii did, and I'm sure many owners bought more than one controller.
Sadly, there was no mention of the PS Vita, the successor to the surprisingly successful PlayStation Portable. All we do know about the struggling handheld is Sony has been slowly lowering total handheld sales forecasts from time to time, and the PSP and PS Vita sold a measly 1.6 million units combined worldwide between July and September. When a company combines sales like that, you know it's not pretty. Between Nov. 5 and Nov. 11 in Japan, the Nintendo 3DS outsold the PS Vita a whopping 47-to-1 - 187,077 units for the 3DS and 4,021 for the PS Vita. Even though that week saw the launch of the monster seller Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the 3DS, the PS Vita has been stuck in the mid four-figure range for weeks in Japan.
Sony has refused to cut the price of the PS Vita, which is stuck at $250 and $300 for their respective units. They're relying on big name titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified to sell the system during the holiday madness. The problem is this game is getting thrashed by reviewers.
Smartphones, tablets and the 3DS are the kings of handheld gaming these days. The only hope for the PS Vita is to cut the price, but Sony's current financial struggles are getting in the way of that. They'll probably slash it after the holidays, but by then it may be too late to save it. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony slowly shut down production next year, cut their losses and put all their focus on the next PlayStation console.

Former CIA Director David Petraeus featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Screenshot from IGN YouTube video |
Petraeus' name and likeness are featured in the much, much-hyped Call of Duty: Black Ops II game from Activision, now in stores. He appears as the Secretary of Defense in 2015.
Besides Petraeus, Black Ops II also features a female president resembling Hillary Clinton and an aircraft carrier named the USS Barack Obama. Sadly, it doesn't look like Joe Biden got any love.

Madden NFL 13 Week 10 simulation: Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings
The Detroit Lions take a trip to Minnesota this weekend in a rematch with the Vikings. Here is a simulation of Sunday's game.
On the opening drive for the Vikings, star running back Adrian Peterson fumbled the ball, which was scooped up by Ndamukong Suh around midfield. The Lions wasted no time breaking the scoreless tie, as Calvin Johnson leaped high in the end zone and hauled in a 4-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to get the early 7-0 lead.
Later in the quarter, Johnson would haul in a big 60-yard pass, as the offense continued to frustrate the Vikings' defense. Jason Hanson would kick a 31-yard field goal to give the Lions a 10-0 lead after the first quarter.
In the second the Lions did not let up. Stafford found Titus Young for a 13-yard score to extend the lead to 17-0. The Vikings would finally answer back, but only on a 41-yard field goal to cut the lead to two touchdowns.
As time was running out before halftime, Stafford found a wide open Ryan Broyles down the sideline for a 42-yard touchdown pass, his third different receiver scoring a touchdown on the day. The Lions exploded into halftime up 24-3.
After another Jason Hanson field goal in the third, Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder connected with Jerome Simpson on a simple 5-yard touchdown score. However, they opted to go for two points and failed the conversion, keeping the score 27-9.
In the fourth Hanson added another field goal, and Stafford delivered the final blow with a monster 62-yard touchdown pass to Johnson, his second on the day. The Vikings' fans went home unhappy, seeing their team get blown out 37-9.
Stafford had a huge day, throwing 31/42 for 451 yards and four touchdowns. Johnson caught eight passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns; Young with six catches for 85 yards and one touchdown and Broyles catching three for 61 yards and one touchdown. Mikel Leshoure rushed for 51 yards on 23 carries.
For the Vikings, Ponder went 18/27 for 220 yards and one touchdown, and Peterson ran for 41 yards on 15 carries and caught five passes for 64 yards.
Madden record: 7-2
Real record: 4-4

Quick thoughts on Paper Mario: Sticker Star
I've been peeling a ton of stickers off the world of Paper Mario: Sticker Star for the Nintendo 3DS, which releases Nov. 11. Here are some thoughts on the game.
Don't get too shocked at what I'm about to tell you. Bowser is at it again. After all his shortcomings over the years, he still thinks he can take over the world. This time, he interrupts Sticker Fest, much to the dismay of the Toad population. Now it's up to Mario to collect Royal Stickers and save the day once again. It's a simple, cute story, well suited for a Nintendo handheld.
That being said, there's quite a few differences in this addition to the Paper Mario franchise that could potentially turn off some fans. There are little RPG elements in this game, since it focuses more on collecting hundreds of stickers which are used in battle. They range from attacks like jumping, hammers and fire flowers to mushroom healing items. Once a sticker is used, it's gone, so you have to search everywhere or buy them in shops to replenish your sticker album. It's a radical twist from what we've seen in the past.
The world map is set up like New Super Mario Bros., as you travel through each level to get to the end goal to unlock the next path. Each level is surprisingly long and filled with hidden secrets, which makes exploration fun and exciting. There are even multiple exits, encouraging replayability.

Quick thoughts on Halo 4
The famous Master Chief is back in Halo 4 for the Xbox 360. Here are some thoughts on the game.
On Normal difficulty, the campaign took me around seven hours to complete, which is on par from past Halo games. There are two important stories going on in Halo 4. Since Cortana is getting older and beyond the typical lifespan of artificial intelligence, she is dying and going crazy. Master Chief is desperate to save her. 343 Industries did a great job humanizing the protagonist, something we rarely see in Halo games.
The other story involves the Prometheans, who don't like the Covenant and really hate Master Chief. Their class of enemies include the Crawlers, who travel in packs and can overwhelm you in a hurry; the Knights, who are smart in the battlefield; and Watchers, who have to be destroyed right away since they protect their allies and revive the dead.
The graphics are simply amazing. Halo 4 one of the best looking games on the Xbox 360. The multiplayer, one of the shining parts of the Halo franchise, doesn't disappoint either.

Madden NFL 13 Week 9 simulation: Detroit Lions vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
This week, the real-life Lions look to even up their record at 4-4 and keep pace with their Madden counterparts. Up next is a trip to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars. Here is a simulation of Sunday's match-up.
Punts dominated the first quarter of play, with the Lions and Jaguars going nowhere on offense. Eventually the Lions were able to move the ball, resulting in a 33-yard field goal from Jason Hanson, which would be all the scoring in the quarter.
The offense picked up in the second. After a big Mikel Leshoure reception in Jaguars territory, the running back finished off the drive with a 7-yard touchdown run to give the Lions a 10-0 lead. Later in the quarter the Lions recovered a Jaguars fumble during a punt return, giving them great field position. They capitalized on it with a 44-yard Hanson field goal.
But with under two minutes to go in the half, the Jaguars weren't ready to give up yet. They quickly moved the ball down the field, scoring on a 6-yard Laurent Robinson TD reception from Blaine Gabbert to make it 13-7 at halftime.
The Jaguars looked to continue that momentum in the third. After being forced to punt, they intercepted Stafford deep in Lions territory. However, the Lions' defense was able to hold them to a 30-yard Josh Scobee field goal to cut the Lions lead to 13-10.
In the fourth, the Lions finally answered back with a 3-yard Pettigrew TD reception from Stafford to extend the lead back to 10 points. However, the Jaguars quickly scored three more points on a 20-yard Scobee field goal to make it 20-13.
Stafford tossed another interception, but the defense was able to stop the Jaguars on a 4th down attempt, turning the ball over. Leshoure did his part to kill the clock, rushing for big first downs. Hanson booted his third field goal of the game from 23 yards out to give the Lions a healthy 23-13 lead.
The Jaguars attempted a miracle comeback, but fell short after adding another field goal and failing to recover the onside kick as time expired. The Lions left Jacksonville with a 23-16 victory.
Stafford went 23/39 for 191 yards with one TD and two interceptions, Leshoure carried the ball 22 times for 108 yards and one TD, and Pettigrew caught six passes for 38 yards and one TD.
For the Jaguars, Gabbert went 23/36 for 259 yards and one TD, Rashad Jennings rushed for 73 yards on 23 carries, and Robinson caught five passes for 77 yards and one TD.
Madden record: 6-2
Real record: 3-4

Quick thoughts on Assassin's Creed III
I've been hopping through trees and along rooftops during the American Revolution in Assassin's Creed III, which recently released for Xbox 360 and PS3. Here are some thoughts on the game.
Ubisoft didn't hold back the details, making this setting worth the hype. Redcoats are everywhere patrolling the streets of Boston and New York, which are filled with people trying to get by in life. Historical figures like George Washington, Paul Revere, Samuel Adams and more play key roles in the game. There's a unique charm to it that American gamers will enjoy.
Fighting groups of enemies isn't difficult, and it's very Batman: Arkham City-like. The game tells you when they attack, so you can counter and disarm them easily, right before the finishing kill. Regenerating health makes combat easier, too.
Assassin's Creed III has its share of bugs as well, although it doesn't ruin the experience. Frame-rate issues, pop-in, and glitches like floating guns will happen. Patches can fix these things, but since this is such a big release, a little more polish would have been nice.

Nintendo makes the big push for digital games with Wii U Deluxe incentives
Nintendo has released details about the Deluxe Digital Promotion for the upcoming Wii U console, which releases Nov. 18. Those who purchase the Wii U Deluxe edition for $349.99 will get some very nice bonuses for doing so.
Deluxe owners who buy digital content for the Wii U, including downloadable games from the Nintendo eShop, and buy download cards from stores will earn points from their purchases, roughly 10 percent of the eShop price. For example, buying New Super Mario Bros. U for $59.99 would earn you 599 points. Every 500 points earned gets the participant a $5 code to be used in the eShop for the Wii U or 3DS. The best part? The credit does not expire.
Currently, the promotion lasts Nov. 18, 2012 through Dec. 31, 2014, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it extended if this is a success. Unfortunately, this is not available to those who purchase the Wii U Basic edition for $299.99. That could also change in the future, but for now the Deluxe edition seems to be the way to go since you're getting Nintendo Land, extra storage space and other goodies for the extra $50.
What's also important to note here is Nintendo's big push for digital games. I'm slowly getting to the point where physical copies are taking up too much shelf space, and it's so much easier just downloading a game and having it right there in the system. Plus, Nintendo's saving some money with a little less of the packaging and distributing of physical copies.
While I don't expect retail to go away anytime soon (you don't want to anger big-box stores after all), you can see the writing on the wall. And with incentives like these, I say bring it on.

Madden NFL 13 Week 8 simulation: Detroit Lions vs. Seattle Seahawks
The Madden version of the Detroit Lions continued their dominance against the Chicago Bears while the real ones struggled at Soldier Field. Up next are the Seattle Seahawks. Here is a simulation of Sunday's game.
Matthew Stafford got off to a horrendous start, throwing an interception two minutes into the game. The Seahawks tried to capitalize, but fell short on a fake punt attempt to give the ball back to the offense. Stafford and Co. made sure to move the ball down the field on their next drive, resulting in a 22-yard field goal by Jason Hanson. That would be all the scoring after one quarter of play.
The Lions got into the swing of things in the next 15 minutes, thanks to some key turnovers. Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch fumbled the ball, which was scooped up by the defense. After moving downfield with ease, Stafford connected with Calvin Johnson in the corner of the end zone to give the Lions a 10-0 lead.
Near the end of the half Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson led the offense down the field, but a Ndamukong Suh sack followed by an interception by Jonte Green killed their momentum. With time left on the clock the Lions' offense marched down the field, and Hanson hit his second field goal of the game from 32 yards out to make it 13-0.
In the third quarter the Seahawks threatened some more, but Lynch once again fumbled the ball to the Lions. No points would be scored in this quarter.
However, the fourth quarter was when things started to unravel for the Lions. Stafford tossed his second interception of the day, and the Seahawks were able to capitalize. Wilson tossed a simple 1-yard TD pass to Sidney Rice to get the Seahawks on the board, 13-7.
The Lions needed to kill some clock, but quickly punted on a 3 and out on their next possession. After receiving the ball around midfield, Wilson once again tossed a TD pass, a 25-yarder to Golden Tate to give the Seahawks the lead, 14-13.
With 6:30 left on the clock, things got crazy. Stafford tossed his third interception of the game at midfield, but Wilson gave it right back with a pick of his own. However, the offense could not move the ball and had to punt with just under three minutes left in the game.
The Seahawks wouldn't be stopped. After completing numerous first downs, Steven Hauschka booted a 31-yard field goal to give the Seahawks a 17-13 lead with 55 seconds to go. The Lions ran out of gas, turning the ball over on downs, and their (Madden) winning streak was snapped.
Stafford threw 25/41 for 247 yards, one TD and three interceptions, while Mikel Leshoure had a very quiet day rushing for 38 yards on 21 carries. For the Seahawks, Wilson threw 18/25 for 213 yards, two TDs and two interceptions, while Lynch had 71 yards rushing on 27 carries and two fumbles.
Madden record: 5-2
Real record: 2-4

Borderlands Legends coming to the iPhone and iPad on Oct. 31
2K Games and Gearbox Software are bringing the hit franchise Borderlands to smartphones and tablets. Borderlands Legends will release on Oct. 31 for iOS: $4.99 for the iPhone and $6.99 for the iPad.
Viewed from the top-down perspective, the original four vault hunters from the first game — Brick, Lilith, Mordecai and Roland — are the stars. Borderlands Legends blends action RPG and strategy elements, allowing players to level up characters to their liking while fighting off familiar foes including Skags and Bandits.
Since the franchise is all about the loot, it'll be interesting to see how many guns and shields are available, considering the cheap price. Hopefully there's a lack of micro-transactions involving better items, which would ruin the fun of the game.
It's also a very interesting decision to release this game on smartphones and tablets, instead of on more dedicated handheld devices like the PS Vita, which easily has the specs to handle a game of this nature. It's the right decision though, since the PS Vita has failed to catch fire in the marketplace. It probably would have cost $40-$50, and a lot less copies would be purchased.
