Square Enix unveils screenshots of Chaos Shrine mode in unique Theatrhythm Final Fantasy 3DS game

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is inching closer to its July 3 release on the Nintendo 3DS. Square Enix has released screenshots of the game's Chaos Shrine mode.

By gaining Rhythmia when clearing songs in the game, Chaos Shrine is unlocked, where you can play mysterious musical scores called Dark Notes. These are randomly generated combinations of battle and field songs. Unlockables include new characters, rare items and being able to play new songs. Being a musical-based Final Fantasy game, the more songs and characters the better.

Owners will also be able to share Dark Notes through the handheld's StreetPass feature or local play. It's nice to see more 3DS games take advantage of StreetPass.

It looks like there's a lot of content for this game. Even though it seems like a niche title, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy could be a sleeper hit. We'll find out in July.
